Does anyone know if Martin has gone on and hired a consultant to re-assess Crysler arena? Does he plan to finally build a good practice facility? I saw where he announced he has no intention of paying the buyout clause to West Virginia. This was in the paper yesterday in Detroit. How about using that 2.5 million on a practice facility?

This is from Beilein's interivew:

Were there any assurances made for a practice facility? ... "We talked about a general plan for the future, yes. We did, about that. I'm taking a great leap of faith here by leaving West Virginia and coming here, but I believe an awful lot in Bill Martin. He will help us do what we have to do.

"But I like what I see so far, without question. Certainly, we've been playing late in March and even at Richmond and Canisius, an awful lot of teams. I think facilities have always been good, probably better facilities at other places, as well. But now, what I see, I like an awful lot."

So there was not a guarantee of a new practice facility? ... "Haven't given any time. Like I said, he's open to all options. That's terrific for me to hear. That's all I can ask, is give us a chance to compete with our competitors and recruiting young men, practicing and developing our players. Those are some pretty important recruits right there (the current students). They're already here, but you have to recruit them every day to be better players. That's important, as well. We'll plan on doing that as the facilities are upgraded, and certainly with the facilities we have right now."

Edit: Martin also said that he hopes Beilein's pay package of $1.3m (as compared to Carr's $1.6m) is an indication of his committment to BBall, something that has been questioned. I think he will continue this line of thought and develop the program and facilities further

I don't know if he has hired anyone yet, but he said he would to "re-asses the infrastructure", what ever that means. Crisler needs more than that.

I always thought the building across the street from elbel field (closest to the blacktop) would be ideal because its already a gym and would need only minor renovation. I also hear they would like to build it as close to crisler as possible, so the current parking lot has been brought up as a possible location.

Pinball Pete--are you THE S. University Street Pinball Pete?

UM is basically building everywhere right now--like always I guess.

They could build a new arena in the parking lot of Crisler and then rip down Crisler and turn it into a parking lot when the new facility is done. I hate to see them give up parking around there. Its already tight as it is.

BUT what would be the sweetest is if they ripped up that lousy golf course (move the golfers over to Radrick on Geddes) and build a super facility over there right next to Ann Arbor Golf and Outing. Give Crisler to the wrestling and volleyball teams. Man! I should be the dern president of UM. I would be so kewl for it.

We could use a prostitution research center.

The name was meant to be identified by those familiar with AA. I have no affiliation with the business.

Be honest, its not how tight it is--its the best tailgate spot if you know someone to get you in.

As you might know Radrick is the faculty course and not open to the public. If your plan went through I could just see professors marching in picket lines. It would be a tweed parade to the tune of "free golf or death!"
