Michigan State and Izzo is basketball in the state of Michigan

Right now, sure. But sparty always has been and always will be the red headed step child down the road that looks to AA for approval. They might have a good program, but nobody in Michigan thinks that Mi can't do what Izzo has done. sparty got lucky in finding a good coach and good banker to loan them money. Also, if MI doesnt go on probation, sparty never gets all the recruits thay they got. After all, the best moment in Izzo's recruiting history was when mateen cleaves got rolled in a ford explorer.

Just remember why you were on probation to begin with when thinking your so much better then everybody else. You can take down the banners and pretend the Fab Five didn't happen - but it did. I don't think anybody on this site ever said Ohio State was a better job the Kentucky was in basketball. We just said Matta is not going anywhere. Matta has a powerhouse for a few years to come with the classes he has coming in the next two years. Teams like Wisconsin and Iowa have some rebuilding to do and the Buckeyes are on pace to be stacked for the next five years. Matta just got a new hefty contract and Im sure there is a healthy bonus for getting to the Final Four and another if they were to win the Championship. Matta has found a home. Wishful thinking though. Just like Tressel was going to the Browns.

For those osu fans that think the b-ball coaching job at osu is better than the job at Kentucky, what in the world have you been drinking? The Kentucky basketball coaching job is probably the 1st or 2nd most sought after coaching position in the country. That b-ball program has everything: money, prestige and history...and Ashley Judd.

Four or five year runs do not make your program one of the most sought out coaching jobs in the country. Year after year Kentucky gets the best recruits and they are a b-ball school.

If you read about Alford leaving two things should jump out at you: He was entering his last year of his contract and there were rumblings about he wanted to go to a b-ball school.

If that's the case then "anybody should be able to coach at Kentucky and win, the BB program practically runs it'self.
If I'm Thad Matta, I would much rather make history of my own at any school "but" Kentucky, because there is no glory in winning a a "Self-Running" program. If you win, they will just say "well it's Kentucky what did you expect" ? Matta would not get any credit for winning.

But if you can take a school like Ohio State, that's already one of the top 5 football Powers in the country and turn it into a BB power as well, then you will definately get the attention you deserve.

Although on a sidenote, OSU is making it's 10th Final Four appearence, which ranks OSU 6th, all time, in Final Four appearences. {Quoted, today on CBS coverage of the East Regional Final.}

You are correct. They are a sports powerhouse untill they start losing, then they become a academic institution. If that was the case how come Harvard, Cornell, Penn, Northwestern and other so called academic institutions don't have football stadiums that seat 105,000 +.

Absolutely, Harvard and Michigan could care less about being ranked in the top 2 in the nation and playing for silly National Championships in any sport, "perish the thought!"

You can view the NCAA records for Final Four Appearences at BB Tourney records, I could not get the link to come up for some reason. But here are some of them:

*Most Final Four Appearences: OSU -9 {not counting 2007} Ranked 6th all time {it's now 10} {UCLA leads with 16 appearences}

*Michigan has 6 appearences ranked 11th all time.

*OSU ranked 6th in FF games played - 15 games

*Michigan ranked 9th with 13 FF games played

*OSU & Michigan are tied with 7 FF wins each ranked 8th all time.

*OSU ranked 8th and 9th all time in "consecutive" FF wins "3" in the 40's and "3" in the 60's..

*Michigan has no "consecutive" FF wins.
Below is the link through Yahoo, go to item 3 in the list it should come up. cords
Note: I just installed some "new" security software and, not used to it yet, it is "very aggressive."

Anyway you can click this link and go to item 3 in the list. Sorry!

Correction to the last item above, that should be 3 consecutive appearences in the 40's and 3 in the 60's "not" con. wins.

*Michigan was'nt listed as having any "consecutive" appearences.

"Surprise the link works", it now goes directly to the Final Four all time records, no Yahoo detour after all.

Michigan will have to pick from the leftovers when finding their next basketball coach

And you KNOW this how?

Iowa is much more of a basketball power house then Michigan is

And when was the last time Iowa won the NC in Basketball? Been to the Final Four in Basketball?

I keep forgetting that all you post are opinions and conjecture. I wish I knew as much about tosu as you think you know about Michigan. That would awesome, time consuming, but awesome!

Bit of a digression here, but there was an interesting news article about how UM has played 5 games against 3 of the Final Four teams this year (UCLA, Georgetown, 3 against OSU). I never thought about it that way. I now know what Penn State Football must've felt like this year...
