Here in TN I have learned that Michigan has put together a package to offer Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl in which he would become the highest paid bball coach in the country. If UT wants to keep him, they'll have to pony up and pay him a ton. This would be the perfect coach for us. I don't think he'd leave UT, but you never know.

Where did you hear that? He has not been mentioned on any site I have seen... The consensus favorite so far seems to be Belein

UM spending? i doubt it. itd be pretty nice though. hes the type of energy we need.

hes done more with less at tenn than amaker did. then again, comparing to amaker isnt saying much.

oh yeah, OSU sucks.

New facility at Tennessee vs. Playing the pick-up practice squad at the CCRB. HMMMMMMMMM.. which would you choose?

All those parts have come together to create good times for Pearl, whose team has advanced to the Sweet 16 for only the fourth time in school history. The Vols have played an entertaining style that has led the Southeastern Conference in scoring in back-to-back 20-win seasons. The Volunteers are 9-4 against ranked teams the last two seasons, including a 6-3 mark this season. In that time, attendance has increased by 7,436 fans per game. This season, they notched their first undefeated SEC mark at home since 1975-76.

The quick building job has enabled the Vols to shuck their earlier reputation as an underachieving men's basketball school when compared with the success of the school's football and women's basketball teams. Renovation of Thompson-Boling Arena began earlier this week, including construction of a $15 million practice facility and the addition of 32 suites to the 24,000-seat arena.

"One of the most satisfying things about our personnel is that we play best when everybody contributes," Pearl said. "If you look at our stat sheets, nine guys have double-digit averages in minutes and we have about nine guys taking shots. We've got nine guys that play and I think have a real understanding of what their roles are.

I live about an hour from Knoxville, and the local sports guys seemed pretty nervous talking about it earlier. They said there were multiple sources talking about it, but I don't know much else. Like I said, it doesn't seem logical for him to even consider it, but the money issue could be big.

I think the best "big name" coach to hire would be Marquette's Tom Crean. He is a great recruiting, who recruited the Michigan State National Championship team. He also has strong recruiting ties in the important Chicago area. Plus, he's a former Michigan State guy...wouldn't it be great to throw that in their face! Bruce Pearl would be nice, but I'd prefer Tom Crean.

I dont think Crean is going anywhere. HE is not on the early short list of candidates. But he is a great coach.

Tom Crean

I don't care if it's Tom Izzo himself, no fing way! Absolutly no ties to sparty.

Oh, I fully agree there is NO WAY Crean is leaving Marquette. He's getting a Top 10 salary, great facilities, great recruits, Big East competition, and he doesn't have to face his Mentor twice a year.

I was just saying I would love it if he did leave for Michigan. Besides sticking it to MSU/Izzo, I'd be able to stick it to my brother as well (a Marquette grad)

Very doubtful, in my mind, that we will ever get Crean or Pearl here.

They are already well compensated and this is not Kentucky or UCLA that we are talking about.

Our FOOTBALL program could draw away some successful Div 1 coaches, but, alas, Lloyd is "Coach for life" and has Bill in his pocket.

the way pearl and tennessee are beating down OSU tonight? why on earth would he leave?

maybe a 2nd half collapse would give him a reason to go?

what do i hope for? overrated OSU to lose? or tennesee to lose so pearl can be talked to...

hmmm

Buckeyes win !!!! Maybe Pearl will leave those nice facilities and large fan base to play in a grungy high school gym in Michigan - doubt it.

If I was on the fence before, I'm not anymore. You're officially now the "Luckeyes"

You have to give those kids credit. They've got a bull's eye target on their back and they weathered the best shot the Vols could muster up and still won. Pearl admitted it was the best half of basketball they had played all year. It wasn't luck than brought them back from that huge deficit at halftime.

Go Big Ten!

HAHAH... i like how TOC now pulls out the "Go Big Ten". I don't think youll find many sympathizers here, but... unfortunately, at this point, I'm semi-hoping for OSU to make the title game. Need to salvage some Big 10 pride.

As for the SEC. Tennessee went down...

for all the ACC talk, they all went down except UNC. Wisconsin would still be in it if it weren't for Butch.

Conley Jr is a witch. How many teams have a true freshman running the point and playing at the level he is. Conley along with the two seniors Butler and Lewis are covering up for Oden's recent lack of production and foul trouble. When Oden does have a big game (you know its coming) watch out. Like Matta said this tourney is about surviving and advancing. These kids have a never die attitude and a strong will to win. They will be a tough out this year.

I hope Michigan hurries up and hires Pearl. I have my "SACKPEARL" website geared up and ready to go. He blows a 20 point lead. Who the hell was advising him.......Lloyd?

Maybe he figured being owned by OSU was a prerequisite for a Um coaching job?

You can talk when Michigan can beat us in either sport.

"Us???" What position do you play again?

Actually, tosu looked good last night. I'm pullin' for em'. I live in SEC country and always pull for Michigan first and Big 10 second and I was worried I'd have to hear about it all day today.

No coach, Pearl or the guy at Xavier, is going to NOT be hired because he blew a lead vs. Ohio State.

If that is the criteria (proven ability to beat OSU), then we will make the same mistake OSU did when it hired Cooper in 1988, just because he had beaten Michigan in the Rose Bowl while at ASU.

Look at coaching candidate who can make a surprise run toward the NCAA tourney next year with someone else's guys. That would be an experienced coach who can coach in tight games and not come up short like Amaker did against OSU, etc.
