from Buckeye news:
A financial consultant with prime seats at Ohio Stadium pleaded guilty yesterday to passing bad checks to pay for his season football tickets. Defense attorney Byron L. Potts blamed Ohio State for continuing to send Haines ticket applications after he had bounced checks. "They kept pushing these tickets at him even though they knew he was having difficulty paying," Potts said. Robert E. Haines Jr. said he wrote checks that bounced for the 2003 and 2004 Buckeye football seasons, but the 52-year-old blamed others for his losses. He pleaded guilty to two felony counts of passing bad checks in Franklin County Common Pleas Court.
The university also wants $18,000 for the tickets, Assistant County Prosecutor Jason Moore said.
His first check, for $12,500 and four seats, bounced in 2003. Haines, who was wearing an Ohio State jacket in court yesterday and said his home has a Buckeye design in the driveway, said his stockbroker stole $60,000 from him, which he didn't know until after the season was over.
The university sent him the same ticket applications for the 2004 season and he again submitted a check, this time for $6,000 and two seats. It bounced, he said, after another financial analyst stole his money and a restaurant Haines owned on Bethel Road went belly up.
"I've given over $100,000 to the university over the years, and I thought the tickets were paid for as part of a seven-year gifting agreement," Haines said yesterday outside the courtroom.
An OSU employee is now in charge of monitoring bad ticket payments to ensure every Buckeye fan pays for his seats.

Pushing season tickets I can understand, it's a big sale & salesman in general can't take no. But thinking OSU HAS to push season tickets to fill the Shoe? Dude, come on! Pass the **** around, no one likes a double toker!!

Whats funny, is that a lot of the judges in Columbus graduated from the Moritz College of Law at OSU and then this bumpkin walks in with a cheesy a$$ hillbilly winter jacket. HA! priceless!

52-year-old blamed others for his losses

the overall team speed of the U.S. checking system was to blame. What an idiot! do you expect a judge to believe you? What did the stock broker have to do with you writing checks with no money in your account? What an idiot

I do feel sorry for this guy. Hope he doesn't do any jail time although I realize most OSU fans are out on parole when they go to the games anyway. Let's take up a collection for him. (good bait.... i caught two trolls and a lady fish)

Don't worry about his safety - he will be protected by all of the other OSU fans and players currently in jail in Franklin County.
