Lets keep this thread strictly for the UFC. Anyone check out the UFC last night for Liddell vs Jackson?

Michigan Man - I took your advice and went and saw the Ultimate Fighting Championships last night at a sports bar instead of paying for it at home. Of all the sports bars that I called, Hooter's was the only one showing it. So I took my eleven year old son there last night and we had a good time watching the fights as well as checking out the girls. We didn't get home till 1am.

I am now making the UFC my favorite thing to watch along with Michigan football. I'm hooked. I can honestly say there's not one boring moment while watching these fights. Anyone who enjoys watching fighting and likes excitement, take some time out to watch this. I'll take the UFC over boxing anyday.

Now on to the fights. A lot of early round knockouts before the big fight. When Liddell and Jackson walked towards the ring to get ready to fight, I was on the edge of my seat as well as the rest of the people at Hooter's. Jackson knocked out Liddell in the first round. Liddell threw a left hook to the body, then Jackson caught him with a right hand smack on the jaw. Liddell was pretty much out after that and Jackson went on top and threw a couple more. Liddell was defenseless and the referee stopped the fight. Everyone was shocked that it was over that quick. No excuses. Jackson was clearly the better fighter.

One thing that I've noticed with the UFC now compared to when I used to watch it in the 90's, is there's a lot more standup fighting compared to the ground fighting and submissions that used to take place. It's beginning to be more like boxing except they use smaller boxing gloves. If that's the case it's only a matter of time before pro boxers could enter the UFC and win. Unless someone is as good with their fists as Jackson, I only see Jackson being beat by a good ground fighter and submissionist. Otherwise Jackson will out punch everyone unless a pro boxer enters the octagon.

O STFU

What's your problem? Are you angry that Liddell lost or is it something I said that pissed you off? Come on out and get it out in the open.

ucf is by far the worst thing ever each fight is one punch a guy falls on the ground the other guy gets on top of him and punchs him or stands on his neck and the ref calls the fight

That seems to happen now more than it used to compared to the 90's. But it certainly doesn't happen in each fight. There's many cases where a guy gets punched and falls to the ground with the other guy on top and ends up winning the fight. That's why I find it so exciting. You really don't know who's going to win till it's over.

Only 1 fight ended with a 1 punch KO at UFC 71. Others ended with submissions, decisions, and KOs. What are you watching???

Boxing is boring and 1 dimensional. Once a guy gets hurt, the ref backs the other guy off and lets him recover, so he can take more punishment. No wonder so many guys have died in boxing - at least in the UFC, when a guy is in trouble, he either fights his way out of it or is KO'd, and doesn't just keep absorbing damage.

I am now making the UFC my favorite thing to watch along with Michigan football.

That was a great card. Parisyan v. Burkman was great, probably the fight of the night.

I was shocked that Chuck let himself get KOd like that. It was totally out of character. He'll get his rematch, but I'm not sure if the results would be different. Rampage seems to have his number.

So was I. But right from the beginning I was saying that Chuck better keep his hands up. He basically keeps his hands down most of the time.

Jackson is very good with his fists. I'm not aware of anyone being able to punch with him. What do you think of the next fight between Henderson and Jackson? Will it take a ground fighter to be able to beat Jackson?

Hendo (as MMA geeks refer to him) is not only an Olympic wrestler, but also has developed a great standup game. He knocked Wanderlai Silva, who is a certified bad-a**, out cold a few months ago to win his 2nd belt (the only guy to hold the Pride 185 & 205 belts simultaneously).

This is a great matchup. For more a more global MMA perspective, goblue, (beyond UFC), refer to sherdog.net. It has a lot of great information.
