Speaking of Quinn (Notre Dame), yesterday I heard that Darius Walker was only the 5th player to leave early for the NFL draft ever in the program!

His 4.56 sec 40 yard dash probably didn't do much to make NFL scouts think he should have left South Bend though.

From everything I have read or heard through the different sports media Quinn is free falling. His stock is dropping because there are questions concerning his toughness and his ability to compete. I have seen some mock drafts where he is the third QB taken. I really think the Lions will take Thomas at #2, if they go offense again you will hear the entire state of Michigan groan. They need to build from the inside out, solid O and D line.

I've seen a few stories about how Quinn is puzzled that his draft stock seems to be falling - but he pulled out of the senior bowl and is now not working out at the combine? He's not helping his own cause much.

Maybe he does have some injury that affected both of these decisions, but if true, for him to keep that a secret does not seem to be helping. I wonder if he has a dud agent that might be costing him big money or if he has a smart agent who is limiting how much he might get exposed resulting in his stock lowering even further. I tend to think the former is more likely than the latter, since basic drills and workouts would probably be the things that Quinn would look good in. Where he's failed to look good has been in big games against decent competition.

Neither of which will be tested at the combine. Russell is riding the wave of one good game, at the end of the year. I think if Brady was on a team with some sort of defense his big game record would be different. I think he is the best QB in the draft.

I'm not saying Brady Q is the best QB or anything--but not tuff enuf? Paallllleeeaaasssee! He got knocked down a whole bunch last season and always got back up. UM really beat the crap out of him and he stood in there. He may be this and he may be that, but HE IS TUFF.

These pretzels are making me thirsty.

I heard a interesting rumor on West Michigan sports radio that Maranelli really liked Stanton. Apparently getting your helmet broken and walking away from it in a game impresses a former Def coach.

Brady or Smith. I can't believe how old Troy is getting flat out dogged now when just a few days ago he was walking on water.

Stanton is a good QB, too. Wonder if he now is second guessing his decision to go to MSU.

For those who haven't seen it, it's a list of where scoutsinc thinks each player ranks, regardless of team need. That list has Brady Quinn as a top 5 prospect. However, no one I've looked at (Yahoo and Foxsports) thinks Brady Quinn will go in the top 5 because:
Oakland is widely assumed to be picking up Russell
The Lions need a help on the line (Joe Thomas)
Adrain Peterson and Calvin Johnson are unbelievable talents.
Defensive ends are always highly valued in the draft and people think highly of Anderson and Adams.
If Thomas is as good as advertised, he'll be the lions choice, even though their passing on great players. I'm not good at judging individual lineman, but Calvin Johnson + Roy Williams + Kevin Jones would be exciting too watch. Everyone rails on the lions for drafting WR's but:
1. Roy Williams is a top 5 wide receiver.
2. Charlie Rogers was injury prone
3. Mike Williams was slow (4.55 if I remember correctly).
By all accounts, Johnson isn't the cancer 2 + 3 were and if he was an asshole, after suffering through Reggie Ball, he would probably have done or said something stupid by now. If he ends up in Tampa like everyone is predicting, even knowing that either Chris Simms (good arm, poor decision making) or Garcia (the exact opposite) will be throwing him the ball, I'd predict he'll be in the top 2 for Rookie of the Year voting (let's see where Peterson and Quinn end up first).

As for Russell, LSU is fast. Notre Dame (especially on defence) is slow. If Randy and Joey are motivated, a guy with a big arm could put on a show, so that's always a possibility. However, one mississippi then "run for your life" isn't a good way to develop decison making skills. If Quaterback's the position, I'm not a scout, but I'd rather have Quinn. He has a decent arm, makes good decisions, and never lost a game in the past two seasons they wouldn't have lost with a different QB (aside from Young).

I think Quinn has to go to a team that is developed and doesn't need him right away. If he's thrown into a bad situation he's going to get killed for a couple years in the NFL. The browns or Lions could draft him and maybe by 2011 he'd actually make a difference. Other players could make a bigger impact sooner. I think Quinn falls in the draft #7-12 pick if the Bucs don't snag him at #4.
