Why are we fighting over uniforms seriously??????

i think this is a great example of the width and breadth of the rivalry. the two schools dont want to concede any ground at all over anything to the other because if they did they would be turning their backs on everything that has been ingrained into their beings since they could speak.

you gotta love (or at least respect) the intensity on both sides...

Bottom line is, if you even take the time to think of the possibility of changing Michigan's uniforms, you have absolutely NO sense of the tradition at the school. Change the uniforms? What's next, firing the only Michigan football coach to bring us a National Championship in the past 50 years simply because he had ONE season out of the last three in which we didn't go to a Rose Bowl. Come on?

Well said. Give the guy a chance to see if he can right the ship. He hasn't screwed the Chancellor's daughter or anything like Terry Bowden did. Ups and downs are part of the game.

Ask a Michigander where something is and they hold up their hand like it's a map and start drawing on it like a 4th grader on the playground. It is pretty funny. They all do it. You guys are a bunch of Moron's!

The rest of the world uses North, East, South, and West. Maybe you should learn it.

You guys SHARED the National Championship. You're lucky too. Nebraska would have kicked your ass in a BCS title game and won it outright.

Have you ever thought about why people from Michigan all do that? Maybe, just maybe, it's because the lower penninsula look remarkably like a mitten. Gee, there's a novel concept. It's a convenient way to show people something.

To accomplish the same thing Ohioans would have to drop their pants, spread their ass cheeks, and draw lines on and around their hemeroid laden bung holes.

Also, here's a little hint: When you're trying to insult Michiganders by calling us names, you don't need the apostrophe, i.e., "You guys are a bunch of MORONS."

So who is the ignoramus here?

Haha...that's awesome. You can follow the stretchmarks between roids' (major Cleveland cities)- your fat ass OSU girlfriend's genital wart can be Cleveland, and the north-south stretchmark can be I-71 to Columbus, which is basically the bleeding roid smack-dab in the center.

and by doing so you would be able to find the poor little Cincinatti Bungles that got their asses handed to them by a far superior Pittsburgh team.

We will never know about the Bengals. Palmer completes a 66 yard pass and is put out of the game. Try Denver without Big Ben and see how the Steelers do.

A BUCKEY is a useless NUT...A wolverine is one of the most fierce animals around. And, the yellow ****, first of all, is MAIZE *****. Second of all, it is the design used on all leather helmets before they became what they are today. P.S. I will kill a buckeye fan the next time they try to attack me in Ann Arbor. Michigan fans do not act like **** heads when visiting the horseshoe. So why are all buckey fans such *** holes when in Ann Arbor? I suppose it is just their nature. GO BLUE!

They should change the helmets and get something original... stop copying off of Princeton.

They should change the helmets and get something original... stop copying off of Princeton.

It looks like you could use an education:
*******************************************
In 1938, Michigan hired Herbert O. "Fritz" Crisler from Princeton to replace Harry Kipke as head football coach. In 1937, his final year at Princeton, Crisler switched the Tigers to a "winged helmet design" that was not "Princeton's" but simply the FH5 model helmet that the Spalding Sporting Goods Company first advertised in the 1937 edition the Official Intercollegiate Football Guide (shown here).

According to the Bentley Library, "Spalding marketed a number of helmet models that featured the "wing" design. The wing provided additional protective padding and helped bind the earpieces to the crown. The FH5 model was the only one featuring three straps running from front-to-back. One model featured a single strap running front-to-back and another running side-to-side. Other models had a one-piece crown. Michigan's FH5 model came only in black and tan while those with a one-piece crown could be ordered in any school colors for an additional fee."

When he arrived in Michigan in '38, Crisler introduced the new Spalding helmets and changes to the Michgian uniform to inspire his team and mark the beginning of a new era (since the Wolverines had gone four years without a winning season). Crisler's innovation that first year at Michigan was to paint the helmet maize and blue. His hope was that the Wolverine QB might be able to better see his receivers.

At the time, a number of schools used Spalding's "winged" helmet design. But as leather helmets gave way to other materials, those schools changed their design while Michigan kept it and simply painted the distinctive "winged" look on the new helmet materials.

********************************************

Instead of just parroting what everyone else says, take a moment to learn something. You're welcome.

Michigan Man- Thanks for helping me prove my point. Crisler started the winged helmet at Princeton before taking it to Michigan. I'd return your taunts of childish names, but you seemed to have named yourself aptly already. After all, even Garfield knows the Michigan and Loser are synonomous.

From ESPN College Football Encyclopedia:

The helmet design immprtalized by the Michigan Wolverines actualy got its start at Princeton. Coach Fritz Crisler created a design that (sort of) resembled a tiger with its ears pinned back in a series of orange stripes running from front to back. The patter, Crisler reasoned, could even yield results on the field, as it might help quarteracks spot their receivers more easily. Of course, when Michigan hired Crisler away, he took the distinctive pattern with him. Eventually, Princeton would abandon the Crisler helmet, but with the opening of the new Princeton Stadium in 1998, the Tigers returned to the gridiron wearing their throwback lids.

From ESPN College Football Encyclopedia:

Refer to my information from the Bentley Library, a much better source than yours. Also, refer to the Spalding helmet # and look it up to see that it is accurate.

Even if I were to concede that Fritz created the design in Princeton and then used it again in Michigan, then by your reasoning, he must have stole the design from....himself? Please review your local and state criminal statutes, and check if it is possible to steal from...yourself. I'll save you the time- it isn't possible to steal something from...yourself. (I can't believe some of the simple things I'm forced into explaining to Tosu fans...it is tiresome)

No Buckeye would ever say this. Your uniforms suck. You stole the helmet and your neon Yellow looks like something a 6 year old gone wild drew with a magic marker. It does look cool when Santonio is flying past them while diving into the endzone though. Thanks for being Posterized!

actually my best friend (dustin fox, WHO PLAYED FOR OSU) loved the michigan colors and uniforms.

In fact he absolutely HATES michigan with a passion. He always tells me the only thing michigan has going for them is that they have the best uniforms in college football.

It's kind of funny to me that OSU would be getting in to an argument about jersey's when they didn't even go to the solid grey helmet untill 1968 (some 30 years after Michigan went to the winged helmet design).

These idiotic OSU fans that say our helmet design is "stolen" from a school that has used it for less then 15 years (in the last 100). It was also created by a former MICHIGAN coach, Fritz Crisler who BROUGHT the design with him to UM. I'm still trying to figure out the rationale behind "stealing" something that you yourself invented? *LOL*

Then these bafoons try to parade OSU's jersey/helmet as the most recognizable in NCAA football even though it's similar to countless other football powers, not to mention identical to one of the NFL's historic in state football teams. It's also one of the most generic football helmet designs there is. A solid color with stripes down the middle of the helmet. It's also one of the most generic jersey's. Solid color jersey with multiple sleeve stripes. It's a similar jersey and helmet design that have at one time been worn by other teams such as Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Purdue and Wisconsin (and that's just teams in their own conference.)

Ohio State simply ripped off the Cleveland Browns helmets and jersey's. They're identical......OSU just swapped the colors.

Minute Man-

You're the only one using the term 'Stole'. I simply said they were created at AND original to Princeton. Coaches may change, schools stay the same.

While the design may not be distinctly unique, the color combination and buckeye leaves make the Ohio State uniform one of the best in the nation.

Obviously, this is a very debatable topic as each individual has years of emotional attachment rooting for a team in their school colors...

But UM fans need to admit... the 'maize' has turned to neon over the years. It doesn't come through as bright on the TV screen, but when you see a Michigan uniform in person, it hurts your eyes to look at it too long (or is that the poor play on the field?)

I think it's pretty funny that the moron OSU fans keep saying that Michigan stole the winged helmet when their most sacred tradition was stolen from UM.

OSU didn't even know how to spell Ohio until Michigan taught them how in 1932.

From the OSU library:
So which marching band performed a script Ohio first?

Ted Boehm, OSU marching band member in 1935 and 1936, and considered an "authority" on Script Ohio, wrote that indeed, Michigan had performed the first Ohio in script.

However, Weigel was also present in 1932 when the University of Michigan Marching Band took the field at Ohio Stadium. According to the student newspaper, The Michigan Daily:

Probably the most effective single formation was the word "OHIO" spelled out in script diagonally across the field in the double-deck Ohio stadium to the accompaniment of the O.S.U. marching song, "Fight the Team."

UM Band in 1932

The best story I heard about this is that during the Big Game in the late 70s or early 80s the Michigan band director said "In 1932 we taught you how to spell Ohio, now we are going to tech you how to spell State." They then proceeded to perform a script State.

Stupid Buckeyes.
