I don't know how many of you get into track and field, but I love it, it is one of my favorite sports. I ran a year in college and always loved it (not to mention me, josh anderson, dustin fox, and derick williams have the regional 4*100 record of 41.5 which beat the record of the 4*100 mike doss was on) w00t w00t.

haha anyway UM girls grabbed 3rd overall. Anybody else watching the ncaa championships? The 400m mens was crazy!

It's nuts how good the souther mens teams do in track and baseball. Most likely because they can train outdoors all year long. I love seeing up north teams do well in baseball and track.

Its funny you should mention that, there is a blog post by the UM track coach about the same general perception, which adversely affects recruiting. It then becomes a cause-effect thing (southern schools get better atheletes, hence perform better, and hence the weather makes a difference). Hopefully Michigan and Wisconsin, Oregon (in the Mens) finishing strong is an indication that weather conditions do not necessarily dictate performance.

yeah that is a good point, it is just crazy though when you look at the times from middle school to high school to college from athletes from down south compared to northern guys.

In high school we ran a 41.5 and here in ohio that is fcking awesome. If you look at top texas times that wouldn't even be top 10 or 15 in the state.

I'm guessing the weather would play a role in high school training, but the facilities for college athletes are so vast, I think weather factors can be largely overcome.

In any case, congrats to both Track Teams, 3 National Champions is great. I believe another one narrowly missed and ended up second.
