I know Les Miles finally came out and said that he is not coming to Michigan today - but this morning during the morning drive it was a hit topic. Mike and Mike on ESPN radio were talking about it and the take that Mike Greenberg had on it matched my thoughts exactly. Les Miles had a small window for which to leave for Michigan. We do not know what happened because there have been so many stories. First Herbie leaked the story, then Michigan made an offer, LSU countered, Martin could not be reached, etc. All Les Miles had to do was say I plan on listening to what Michigan has to say. I'm an alum, I played for Bo and the place is dear to my heart. I'm not saying that I'm leaving but I have to be true to myself and at least listen. PEOPLE WOULD OF UNDERSTOOD. Instead Miles has a press conference in which he is very angry at the media that got a tip from somebody at Michigan (you can be mad all you want at Herbie but something was up). He then in the camera states that he will in fact be the coach at LSU next year. That should of been the end of it, but no. Several days pass before there is a press release that Miles signed a sweetheart deal to stay at LSU that provides him with some very nice perks - like, more money, free education for his kids at LSU, insentives for acedemics and a clause that would pay him double his remaining contract if fired - not to bad, THANKS MICHIGAN. He still has the buyout clause for the Michigan job. So for that reason Michigan fan gets all excited because they still for whatever reason thinks he is coming.

What Greenberg said that struck me was - why sign the extension. Once he did that he made a commitment to LSU. By signing you are giving your word to the LSU administration, fans and most of all your players. If Les Miles was to do a Nick Saban and stiff LSU by using the Michigan buy out before the ink on the contract is dry - what does that tell you about Les Miles the person. Is that truly the man you want leading your football team. A man whos word means nothing, Would the parents of the recruits trust him. What if the NFL came calling. Would he do the same thing to Michigan. He would of really came across as a two faced @sshole if he came to Michigan after all this. That was pretty much in a nutshell what was said - and I agree.

I know Michigan fans are getting angry and desperate but let this man go and find somebody else before you really get left out in the cold. Les Miles used his old school to get over on LSU, yet you still want him. I don't understand. Maybe somebody can explain that to me. Any small opening that was there for Miles to end up in AA seems to of been closed by Martin. I hope he caught alot of nice fish because the BIG one got away.

Chances are will be whatever Michigan has to say will be pre-printed garb courtesy of the Carr Regime. It's all bull ****. It's all a load of crap. I am sick of this ****. Arkansas just landed Petrino for 3 MILLION BUX. Where the **** is Michigan?

Seems to me somone in the UM circle of descision making does not want Miles there, or this thing would have gotten done awhile ago.

I still feel this story will not go away until UM hires a coach.

I seriously hope we hire somebody, anybody soon so I don't have to hear about Les Miles everyday through the media and on here. I'm so sick of seeing the same highlight of him pumping his fist after that rediculously dumb call to throw the TD pass instead of the field goal.

And if I hear the speech about his damn strong football team again I may vomit.

I think I prefer listening to Lloyd's voice to his.

Maybe if you live in Michigan you cannot see how you look to the outside world - but its not good. While other teams hire high profile coaches Michigan cannot even get a guy to interview. The longer this goes on the worse you continue to look.

My contention is that based upon your ignorance and extreme bias, you are unable to speak on this topic intelligently.

Nut, don't be such a nutball. On Jan 8, UM will announce Miles as the next head coach. What is so difficult for you to understand about this.

My thoughts exactly, Todd. This douche bag thinks he's got his finger on the pulse of America or something.

What's funny is all the OSU fans afraid of us getting him...

I think much of the excitement over Miles was for two reasons:

1. People are sick and tired of passive play and playing not to lose. Miles in an aggressive, risk-taker.

2. People are in dread fear Carr is going to get Brady Hoke, Mike DeBord, Ron English or Kirk Ferentz the job and we shall continue to play stupidly for years into the future.

You people just can't take no for an answer. You really want Miles if he goes Saban or Petrino on LSU ???? What would his word mean to any recruit if he stabs LSU in the back ????

I can take 'no' for an answer, I have never been pro-Miles. I am just playing the other side of the coin...

IF Miles comes, it can easily be said he isn't pulling a Saban or Petrino. Why? Simple, Saban and Petrino weren't in positions of protecting their teams. Miles had a SEC title game and is now preparing for the NC. Honestly, if I were him, I'd lie through my teeth just to get the media off me and let my team focus in on what they need to focus on.

And, frankly, it's actually a redeeming quality to me in that case that a coach would throw his integrity on the line to shield his team.

Saban and Petrino weren't in that boat...

After all his press conferences and statements about not leaving he will absolutly be in the same boat as Saban and Petrino. If he really wanted to come to Michigan then why would he give his word and sign the contract. His word and credibility will not mean a thing if he dumps LSU and goes to Michigan after everything that has happened. Just because its Michigan that he is going to does not make it acceptable or right. Saban and Petrino is part of what is very wrong about college football - is that the kind of guy you want - really.

Saban and Petrino were not in a position to protect their team. Simple...as...that.

Because IF the Michigan thing doesn't work out LSU has flinched and gave a sweet deal...

You can spin it anyway that you want - its just wrong and will make him look like a total @sshole.

Would that mean he would owe Herbie an appology ?????

He doesn't owe anyone an apology for protecting his team and keeping them focused.

What about the incoming recruits that he is currently on the road going after. How would he look in their eyes or the eyes of their parents who saw him say on TV that he is not going anywhere and know he just signed a new contract last week.

You can can that protecting his team crap as well. This has been nothing but a distraction to everybody for 3 weeks stright. If LSU lays an egg against hio State it will be nobodys fault but Miles and Pellini. How can LSU prepair for a NC when every sports station and radio show is talking about this Miles thing. If you call that protecting his team - he is doing a horrible job.

Hey nut, it wouldn't be the same, the man said UM was his dream job. He's said it a billion times. Word and credibility? Which word? Staying at LSU or that UM is his dream job? He's said both, one is true... thusly, coming to UM would be acceptable. Did Saban say for years that Alabama was his dream job? No. Did Petrino say Arkansas was his dream job? No.

Miles said what he said to deflect attention away from himself and the UM job... he said what he said and did what he did for the good of his team. You can argue whatever you like nut, but at the end of the day, IF Miles is laying... then the context of his lies is not equivalent to the contexts of Saban's and Petrino's lies. And that is all assuming he will be the next coach at UM, which I'm not sure will be the case. Just depends on if UM hires someone before 1/8 or not. We shall see...

And the only people who would be pissed are probably the LSU fans and AD (assuming they win the NC), and ESPN for making Herbie look like a tool, which he still is anyways. But I doubt most UM fans would care, I think most would be OK with it, and some would agree with Miles' actions, doing what it took to focus his team for winning the title. If it turns out that's what Miles is doing, I think I would probably be on the side that it's good.

Questions had to be answered when they were... to focus the team for the SECCG the first time around, and to focus for preparing to win the NC this time around. It's a dirty game, but I think there are plenty of times where an owner has said he'd keep a coach and then fired him. If an employer can do it, if they can fire a coach at a whim, and get away with lying about it, then so can an employee. I feel no sympathy for the employer in this case... the contract allows them to fire coaches whenever they want, and if the LSU AD wanted to ensure Miles wouldn't leave then he should have upped the buyout clause to $100m or something outrageous like that. So I'm not going to feel bad for a poorly drawn-up contract, or a coach doing what it takes to win the NC. Miles wants the title, and the players do too, and if he is lying in his comments, then it's to win it for himself and for his players. Not to mention, as I've said before, NOBODY would really care about Miles doing so, except for the LSU people and ESPN. It'd be a 2-day story. Miles certainly wouldn't care, and neither would UM. Just my 2 cents.

Okay nut... look, IF Miles is coming to UM, then the contract was already finalized in that phone conversation. Therefore, there will be NO need for further contact. Miles has answered and explained the phone conversation last Friday... therefore, end of story. Any continuation of the story is ENTIRELY media driven, and would not be driven by any further contact between Miles and UM. Everybody is talking today about Petrino, and will be for a while I'm sure... and baseball's story will be all over the place for the next week... then it'll be UCLA hiring their coach... there is tons of smoke that will be floating around until the bowl games come and go, and any further media-driven speculation of Miles will be VERY low-key, if at all existent. And as far as recruits go... if he comes then he's leaving the LSU recruits, so who cares, sucks for them... and if they're in love with Miles so much then they can come up to UM. That would be fine with me. Is is a rotten deal for LSU, their fans and their recruits? Yes. But that's life. And just as excuses can be twisted and invented, criticisms can be manufactured in exactly the same way. Keep it coming nut!
