Do you guys realize that there's one big factor many aren't considering?

Carr is leaving the next coach a "project". When many big name teams replace their coaches, they often get a new guy who takes over for the previous guys great recruits and takes them to either a new level or at least maintains status quo. Take LSU for example. The question was... "can miles win without saban's players". Can Weis win without willingham's players...et c...

Well.. if you look at it... technically, Carr, if he wanted what's best for U of M, should have left lsat year.

He's left the kitchen somewhat empty.

A new coach has to come to Michigan and take over what amounts to a "project"...after we lose an all-american lineman, possibly WR, the #1 RB in michigna history (statistically), and a 4th year starting QB.

If you offer this job to coaches LAST year, you would get ANYONE YOU WANTED.

But, who's going to come in with the projects we have now and take on what will be an even tougher OSU team next year... in columbus?

If they lose,... all he'll hear is... "here we go again". Who wants that?

I think that carr staying the extra year was his attempt to get one more title shot. we had (we thought) a weakish schedule..with lots of home games and the key game at the end at Home too. (OSU)

Instead, it blew up in his face... and now, big name coaches who want to win titles next year are looking at this thinking... where's the payoff?

I make this team better and more effective, but i go against what will be the #1 team starting next year, OSU... if i can't teach mallett and what amounts to being a weak offense next year into beating them.. im considered a failure.

It takes a very loyal and strong mind to get something like this done and take this on. Miles was willing... i hope more are too.

Excellent points.

Though I was not a huge Carr fan, I did feel that he deserved one last season to win it all.

Problem was that few players and coaches really prepared for this season. It was almost like they expected to win 11-12 games just by showing up.

We saw that when the ASU game went crazy from the start and then we could never get ahead by more than a few points in the 2nd half. The Oregon game proved that we were even close to being ready for the offenses that we KNEW would be coming at us.

I buy your argument that SOME coaches are turned off by coming in to a place that is expected to win and having to rebuild with a young team. I also think that SOME coaches are making good enough money under much lower expectations (Ferentz, Schiano, etc.) so why come here?

However, I am still expecting that at least ONE solid CFB coach will express interest in leading the program. It will be quiet and may not even get announced until the trip to Ann Arbor is already scheduled. Nope, I don't know who that will be, but if Martin's network is even functioning, we will hook up with that person.

But...I did say last night that I thought the Schiano thing would break down. I've always thought he was headed to PSU. I do give Martin credit for at least trying.

I WOULD HAVE TO AGRRE WITH YOU! THERE IS PLENTY OF TALENT HERE IN MICHIGAN, I DON'T KNOW BUT IT SEEMS EVERY YEAR WE HAVE A TOP TEN RECRUITING CLASS! SO PLEASE DON'T TELL ME THERE IS NO TALENT IN MICHIGAN! AND IF ANYTHING, IT IS A BLESSING THAT THE SENOIRS ARE MOVING ON BECAUSE SERIOUSLY WHAT BIG GAMES DID THEY WIN ANYWAYS? AND MAYBE WITH THE FOCUS BEING OFF OF HART AND HENNE THIS TEAM WILL BECOME ONE NEXT YEAR! WAR PERTERSON, WE NEED A COACH WITH SOME IMAGINATION AND BALLS!

its very simple. do you expect to beat OSU next year?

sure we have talent, but do you think we'll even be ranked to start next year?

do you think we'll be able to beat OSU? will we win a title?

these are the questions.

sure we get talent, but because of the LACK OF DEVELOPMENT by the coaching staff, i think we're in for somewhat of a swoon without henne, hart, long, etc...

i hope not, but... expectations will be lowered.

As a proud U of M alumni, please tell me that you didn't get your education at UMich. I'd be a little less proud of my education.

Michigan has plenty of good players. They're underachieving and underdeveloped. Bringing in a great coach isn't going to catapult you over Tressel who in a "down" year is making the National Title game.

I'm not concerned about the usual junkie games. I want to beat OSU... repeatedly. Its been a while since we've done it.

According to Rivals Michigan has had a better recruiting class than OSU for 4 out of the last 5 years. I don't think talent is the problem. Plus, it would be hard to consider Michigan bare with a guy like Mallett holding down the fort for the next 3 years.

Relax guys, we have more than enough talent to get the job done next year. If we can get the right coach that knows how to exploit all of that talent and make it work, then we will be back on top. I think what Zook has done at Illinois is a perfect example. Zook will turn Illinois into a power house within the next year or two, and watch the recruits that decide to stay home.

The new coach would still get a loaded D next year though... They are young, but loaded with potential.

Hopefully, UM thought they had a loaded O this year and they were a load of crap.
